Deep thoughts Tuesday

Yo!

It’s deep Tuesday! What is deep Tuesday you might wonder. Well, deep Tuesday is the day we ask ourselves a deep, meaningful, powerful, provoking and inspiring question. And we also answer it! The reason behind this is that I believe we don’t think enough, we don’t get asked any challenging question about our own life and surroundings because we’re so caught up in our everyday life. And that’s perfectly okay!! But if there are people out there who do want to be challenged once in a while, then this post is for you! I don’t want to just write about a random deep topic, I want to ask questions, because I believe in the power of questions. I also believe that sharing our thoughts and answers could help others in so many ways. There is no wrong or right answer, these questions are supposed to make you think, get you inspired and challenge you. If you feel like sharing your thoughts and answers go ahead and do it. If not, that’s okay too.

So here’s the first question and my attempt answer.

HOW DO YOU MAKE THE WORLD A BETTER PLACE?

giphythinking

Uhm I don’t know! I have a really disappointing answer to that: I do nothing that would make the world a better place. How can you even make it a better place? A better place for who?

think

Honestly, I don’t recycle, I don’t use environmental friendly products, I don’t really care whether or not the world is a good place, because I don’t have time for that. Also, why should I care when millions/billions of people don’t give a damn. You could say I’m a pretty terrible human.

But wait, now that I’m thinking about it (see already digging deeper in the wild ocean of my thoughts), I don’t want to believe that I’m such a horrible person. It’s always the small things that matter and I do some small things. So after thinking for a while, here’s a few thing I do to make the world a better place:

I’m a regular blood donor. YESSSSS. I am! In fact the main reason I couldn’t wait to turn 18 was to finally be able to donate blood. I know it’s really super weird and I don’t know where that idea came from but I’m happy I do it. I also wrote my dissertation about how to increase the number of young blood donors (I got an exceptionally good grade), so you can tell I feel really strong about it. It’s my way to help society. It is said that with one donation you can save 3 lives!!!! And thinking about it, if I ever helped one person with it, I think I already did something to make the world a better place. And this makes me feel pretty good about myself. I’m also trying to encourage my healthy friends to go and donate blood because it takes maximum 1 hour and you might save someone’s life. And that’s a big deal!

I’m spreading good energy. At least I’m trying. I seriously believe that as long as you can find humour in a difficult situation, you are a winner. I love making people laugh, I like making them realise that there is always something good in the bad things that are so unfairly happening to them. And I know I’m doing a good job, because people come to talk to me (which is sometimes overwhelming) and I’m so happy to see that I can help them with a good cheerful chat. And if the people around me are happy, inspired and joyful, and I played even a minor role making them feel better I think I contributed to the world’s well being.

I support locals. Whenever I’m travelling, and thank god I can do that a lot, I always always always eat in local restaurants run by local residents instead of spending money at big restaurant chains. Same with drinking. I would never go to Starbucks or Costa Coffee to have my daily dose of caffeine I will only visit small coffee shops to try whatever they have to offer. I believe this is a big deal! Supporting locals, increasing the country’s GDP’s and so on. And it’s not only good for them, but this is how you get a real view on the country/region you’re visiting. Showing interest in the culture, listening to what the locals have to say can give you the experience of a lifetime. And I think if you both benefit from you spending your money at local businesses then it’s a good way to make the world a better place.

Okay I spent really a long time thinking about my life, so long I don’t even know what I’m doing anymore and started to question all my life decisions 😀 I will stop it here and not only because I couldn’t think of anything else but I don’t want to write a super long post. I think you get the point. And I get it too. I realised and clearly see that I still have a long way to go in order to take my share in the efforts of making our world a better place. I probably need to start thinking about recycling or having deeper thoughts on environmental issues which now I’m totally willing to do.

Also, I would love hear what you’re doing to make the world a better place, because you might inspire me and give me great ideas. Please let me know your thoughts and suggestions about this kind of posts, you’re feedback is really valuable to me.

I also take suggestions for the question on the next deep thoughts Tuesday!

Thanks, and enjoy thinking!!!

  1. I made this world a better place when I brought my two daughters into it. Honestly, raising children to be good people is such a contribution to this world. They are 21 and 23 now and my husband and I can finally breath a sigh of relief. We did it! We live in Italy and I’d like to think we give a positive impression to our Italian friends and neighbors. I’d like to think I spread a positive, upbeat energy more often than not. It’s easy to make the world a better place — little by little. Set the example — it may rub off on someone.

  2. Such a beautiful post! Thought provoking indeed!
I would start practicing the Thought for Tuesday thing 🙂
As for making world a better place, I am making this list right now in my diary.
So glad that you are making the world a better place to live in, thanks 🙂

  3. what a great idea! it’s great to get deep and meaningful sometimes :p I try to make the world a better place by volunteering, spreading positivity and recycling (although I definitely could be better at that :p )

  4. You have such a unique way of writing, it really gets me involved in what your saying (rarely happens, I must admit) I often skim-read alot of blogs but yours really kept my attention. I think anything you can do is better than not doing a thing, so yeah, keep switich your side-lamp off or the light on your microwave..little things do help and you shouldn’t feel bad about it (although I always feel awful If I fall asleep infront of the tv)
    – Keep spreading good vibes x

  5. This is a lovely post. Donating blood since you were 18 is mighty impressive:) I also like to shop local as much as possible as I prefer to see quirky independent shops on the high street rather than multi chains
